After weeks of rain and even snow, local baseball teams welcomed fine weather last weekend.

One of those clubs, the 15U AA Lloydminster Prairie Pirates, hosted three other teams for a series of Baseball Alberta Provincial League Division 1 games Saturday and Sunday at the Hospital West Field.
The Pirates suffered three losses, beginning with a 13-12 battle Saturday against Sherwood Park Athletics Gold. Lloyd’s last-inning comeback rally came up just short.
In their two games Sunday, the Pirates lost 17-3 to the Leduc/Beaumont Black Gold 47’s Gold and 8-6 to the Camrose Cougars Royal.
The Pirates are off to a 1-5 start in this young season. Their lone win was a 19-7 rout of the Black Gold 47’s Gold.
TWINS MAKE THEIR MARK EARLY
Meanwhile, the 15U AA Lloydminster Twins sport a 4-2 record in provincial league Division 2 play.
For a second weekend in May, the Twins won two of their three games.
During a St. Paul visit last weekend, Lloydminster opened with a 19-6 loss to the host Storm. The Twins went on to score back-to-back victories — 18-3 over Edmonton Padres Orange and 16-6 over Fort McMurray Oil Giants Blue.
In earlier May action, on Lloyd’s Hospital West Field, the Twins defeated St. Paul 14-12 and Fort McMurray Oil Giants Orange 26-19, before losing 14-7 to Edmonton Padres Blue.
PERFECT START FOR 18U AA PIRATES
Sporting an unblemished 5-0 record in the Baseball Alberta Provincial League, the 18U AA Prairie Pirates of Lloydminster won three more games last weekend in Division 2 action at St. Paul.
The Pirates doubled the St. Paul Storm 12-6 on Sunday, after scoring a couple of wins Saturday — 18-10 over the Bonnyville Braves and 6-5 over the Lac La Biche Dodgers.
Lloyd hosts a series of 18U AA provincial league games on the June 6-7 weekend at the Wallace Park Co-operators Field.
