RCMP investigate suspicious death of North Battleford woman

Saskatchewan RCMP’s homicide investigation unit has taken over the investigation into the death of a 65-year-old woman in Battleford.

Officers from the Battlefords detachment responded to a report of a deceased person at a residence on 20th St. West at approximately 2:45 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8.

The victim has been identified as Melissa Kohle-Derkachenko of North Battleford. Police say her family has been notified.

Investigators are treating the death as suspicious.

Residents in the area of 20th St. West are being asked to review footage from home security or doorbell cameras captured between April 1 and April 8.

“If your device captured suspicious activity, report it to police,” the RCMP said in a news release.

Police say there will be an increased presence in the neighbourhood for an undetermined amount of time as the investigation continues.

No further details were released, though Mounties noted they would notify the public if any imminent risk to safety is identified.
