Noah and Olivia secured the number one spots for boys and girls, respectively. While both names have long-standing histories at the top of the rankings, the preliminary data released Tuesday also revealed a few surprise climbers and new entries.

Olivia reclaimed the top spot for girls for the ninth time in a decade. However, the biggest surprise was Lainey, which jumped from 20th place to tie Nora for second.

The boys’ side saw Muhammad surge into a third-place tie with Oliver and William. Muhammad first appeared on the list in 2023 in the 20th spot. Jack held steady as the second most popular boy’s name, while last year’s leader, Henry, slipped to 11th place.

Top 5 Boy Names in 2025:

  1. Noah (49)
  2. Jack (48)
  3. Muhammad (44)

The 2025 list was compiled based on a preliminary count of 13,408 live births registered in the province during the calendar year. This represents a slight increase from the 13,207 births registered in 2024.

Other notable trends saw Weston (13th) make its first-ever appearance for boys, while Grayson (20th) returned to the top 20 for the first time since 2021. For girls, staples such as Sophia, Aurora, and Isla rounded out the top eight.

The province notes that these statistics only reflect babies born within Saskatchewan and do not include residents who gave birth outside of provincial borders.
