Last year around this time I wrote, “I return a married man.” July 31, 2025, marked the day Hope and I tied the knot. The day thankfully went off without a hitch, and we had plenty of great memories to reflect on.

This year, July 31 has come and gone, and my wife and I celebrated with dinner and some laughs, thinking about our wedding and the year since. It’s a bit of a surreal experience to realize how fast time goes by, but our wedding anniversary was exactly that.
They always say, “Time flies when you’re having fun,” and it’s absolutely true. For effectively our whole relationship, Hope and I have lived together, making the transition to married life much easier. We’ve always enjoyed each other’s company and bonded over whatever we were doing.
We’ve experienced a ton of new things together, spent time with family and taken in a lot of first events. With marriage came the need to plan for the future, something we’ve been looking at in depth. Lloydminster in a lot of ways has become part of our fabric as we have friends and various commitments here.
That being said, we continue to grow together and accept whatever the future holds. People say the first year of marriage is the hardest, but I disagree. If you know the person you’re marrying and have a good foundation in your relationship, it’ll seem like any other year. We had plenty of time before getting married to work through any issues and discuss how to live together and handle most situations.
I look forward to the many years ahead. I also look forward to continuing to share my story and updating everyone on how things are going.
To cap off this column, if there’s anything I can say to those in a relationship considering marriage: it’s easy to find someone you love, but it’s much harder to find a best friend and a life partner.
