Area wrestlers traded the traditional mat for the mud pit as the Border City Badgers Wrestling Club hosted its second annual Badger Bash fundraiser at Bud Miller All Seasons Park.

Founded in 2024 by head coach Kaidin McGinnis after moving to Lloydminster from Saskatoon, the club has quickly established a foothold in the local sports scene.
Operating out of the Fight Farm on 44 St., the group offers training in both freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling styles.
Despite starting small, McGinnis noted significant momentum over the past year, with club members competing at the Winter Games and sending a delegation to nationals in Grande Prairie.
The club currently maintains around 20 members during the summer, with numbers climbing to more than 20 during the peak winter season.
“It’s different,” McGinnis said of the decision to host a mud wrestling event. “We did it one time at Last Mountain Wrestling Camp outside of Regina and it was so much fun.”
The outdoor event featured a community fundraising barbecue to help offset operational costs for the non-profit club. Proceeds from the food sales will go toward purchasing team singlets and funding athlete travel expenses for upcoming regional and national competitions.
As part of the initiative, the club also offered free meals to local first responders and EMS personnel attending the event.
