The local talent will take 27 athletes on the trip to Lisbon next summer.

Gymnaestrada is a unique blend of gymnastics, cheerleading and dance that brings together performers from around the world in one of the largest gymnastics-for-all events on the planet.

The athletes say they’re proud to represent both Lloydminster and Canada at the international competition.

The team follows a tradition of Lloydminster youth athletes making their mark on national and international stages in recent years.

To help fund the trip, Explosion Lloyd hosted two barbecue-bake sale fundraisers on Saturday, Aug. 29.

The group has also competed internationally before, bringing valuable experience to the Portugal trip.

The 2027 World Gymnaestrada takes place in Lisbon, Portugal, where the Border City athletes will perform alongside teams from dozens of countries.
