Closing the Door: Although Okotoks cut the lead to 3-2 early in the third period thanks to a power-play goal from Gavin Pratt at 5:52, the Lancers held firm. Lloydminster capitalized on two of their five power-play opportunities while shutting down all four of Okotoks’ man-advantage chances.
Puck Control: The Lancers heavily pressured the Oilers’ defense throughout the match, outshooting Okotoks 47-33 behind strong goaltending and penalty-killing execution.
Sunday: Calgary Flames 4, Lloydminster Lancers 4 (5-4 OT)
The momentum carried into Sunday, Oct. 11, where the Lancers engaged in a wild, back-and-forth battle against the Calgary United Pacific Projects (NW) Flames. Though the official game sheet records a 5-4 overtime final in favor of Calgary, the contest showcased exceptional resilience from Lloydminster.
Fast-Paced Opening: Locklin Mitchell opened the scoring for the Lancers early at 1:56 of the first period. Calgary answered back with a furious three-goal surge, but Kael Scott notched his second goal of the weekend to close out a high-intensity opening frame with the Flames leading 3-2.
Defensive Battle & Late Surge: Following a scoreless second period where Calgary held an 14-8 shot advantage, both teams traded blows in the third period. The Lancers clawed their way back to tie the game and force extra time, matching Calgary’s physical and disciplined play.
Overtime Heartbreak: In the three-on-three or extra session, Calgary ultimately secured the extra point. The final shots on goal reflected how tightly matched the contest was, with the Flames edging the Lancers 34-33 overall. Special teams played a clean role, with Calgary going 0-for-1 on the power play and Lloydminster going 0-for-0 while keeping penalty minutes to a minimum.
Overall, the weekend displayed the Lancers’ depth, offensive capabilities, and ability to compete right down to the final whistle against top AEHL competition.
