The Lloydminster Comprehensive Barons were again in the thick of the action in the late going of another high school football game.

For the second straight week, the youthful Barons narrowly lost an exhibition contest in the Saskatoon area, this time falling 21-15 to the Marion Graham Falcons last Friday (Sept. 12) in the Bridge City.
“We were down 15-3 at the half and battled back to tie the game late in the fourth quarter,” said Barons coach Kieran Link.
“On the third down on the last play of the game, they threw a touchdown pass to win the game.
“The young (Lloyd Comp) team showed resilience in the second half, battling back from a two-score deficit.”

Barons quarterback Joe Kelly scored two rushing touchdowns. Caron Krchov had a field goal.
In its first pre-season game a week earlier, Lloyd Comp lost 31-24 to the Martensville Royals, who scored the game-winning touchdown in the final minute.
The Barons begin their North Saskatchewan Football League regular season this Friday (Sept. 19) in Lloydminster, with a 6:30 p.m. game against that same Martensville team.
The following Friday (Sept. 26), the Comp visits the St. Mary Marauders for a 6:30 matchup in Prince Albert.
Barons in golf districts
In other Lloydminster Comprehensive athletics, the Barons were well-represented this week at the Saskatchewan district golf championships in Meadow Lake.
The Barons’ six qualifiers for the Wednesday (Sept. 17) tournament included senior Matthew Bailey.
Other representatives from Lloyd Comp were Grade 11 students Matthew Christensen and Graydon Moore, and Grade 10 rookies Alex Dennett, Tylan Ducherer and Drew Mazzei.
