Senior killed in collision with semi in Hardisty

A 93-year-old man is dead following a two-vehicle collision in Hardisty, Alta., on Feb. 9.

Killam/Forestburg RCMP responded to the crash at about 4 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 13 and 49 St. A detour was put in place while officers investigated.

Police say initial findings indicate a pickup truck was turning eastbound onto Highway 13 when it was struck by a westbound semi hauling grain.

The lone occupant of the pickup, a 93-year-old Hardisty resident, was extricated from the vehicle by local fire crews and taken by ground ambulance to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The 49-year-old driver of the semi was not injured.

RCMP extended condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
