The RCMP announced the start of its 2026 “Name the Foal” contest on April 7. This year, the force is searching for names starting with the letter “C” for as many as nine foals expected to be born this spring at the RCMP breeding farm in Pakenham, Ont.
To be eligible, participants must be 14 years old or younger and live in Canada. Only one entry is allowed per person.
“The winning names will be chosen by a committee of employees at the RCMP Musical Ride and Heritage Branch,” the RCMP said in a news release.
Winners will receive a prize pack that includes:
- A photo of the foal they named;
- A certificate signed by the RCMP Commissioner;
- An engraved horseshoe made by an RCMP farrier.
School classrooms are also encouraged to participate. Winning classroom entries will receive a framed photo of the foal and a commemorative certificate.
Entries must be submitted online through the RCMP website by April 24, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. EST.
The results, including the names of the foals and the contest winners, will be announced on the RCMP’s website and social media channels later this spring.
