The Government of Saskatchewan is showcasing the province’s heavy oil sector this week as industry leaders gather for the biennial Lloydminster Heavy Oil Show.

Running Sept. 16 and 17, the event brings together energy delegates from across Western Canada to demonstrate new recovery technologies, discuss sector innovation, and explore future investment opportunities in the region.
“Saskatchewan’s oil and gas sector creates thousands of jobs, generates significant investment and reliably provides the energy the world needs,” energy and resources minister Chris Beaudry said in a statement.
According to provincial data, the oil and gas industry employs more than 25,000 people in Saskatchewan. The sector generated $11.5 billion in production value last year, contributing significant royalty revenues toward public services and infrastructure.
Government officials noted that technological advancements and improved recovery methods in northwest Saskatchewan are expected to bring several new heavy oil projects into full production over the coming years.
