Residential construction in Saskatchewan continues to outpace the rest of the country, with new housing starts jumping 65.5 per cent year-over-year in August.

Data released Sept. 16, by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation shows Saskatchewan ranked first among Canadian provinces for housing start growth over August 2025. The province has placed in the top two nationally for year-over-year growth for three consecutive months.
The surge was driven primarily by multi-unit developments, which rose 116.7 per cent during the same period.
“With Saskatchewan attracting record private investment, this is one of the most exciting periods in the history of our province,” Trade and Export Development Minister Warren Kaeding said in a statement. “More and more people are choosing to live, work and raise a family here in our province because of the robust growth we are experiencing in our economy.”
The housing construction push comes alongside broader economic gains in the province. According to recent Statistics Canada figures, Saskatchewan’s real gross domestic product reached a record $85.4 billion in 2025, up 2.2 per cent and outpacing the national average growth rate of 1.7 per cent.
Private capital investment in the province also grew 12 per cent last year to $13.6 billion, marking the highest growth rate among the provinces.
