The Lloydminster Museum and Archives is ready for the Saskatchewan Summer Games.
The facility, located on 44th St. near the Casino, is expecting some extra individuals Tuesday (July 23) and Thursday (July 25) when admission is free to check out the museum.
Admission those days is being paid for by the Summer Games Committee in hopes the youth and others will get an opportunity to see a dedicated exhibit to the history of sports in the community.
The Meridian Source caught up Natalie Clysdale, Museum and Archives manager, to learn a little bit about why it's important for them to get the history out.
"The play ball exhibit, Summer Sports in the City, represents sports history in Lloydminster," said Clysdale. "So, the artifacts on display, all the archival images, feature sports teams throughout the history of Lloydminster."
She hopes when they leave they understand everything they are doing is going to be considered part of history at some point. Like some of the artifacts in the building, including those of the cancelled 2020 games, what they do will be documented and archived indefinitely as it's important to the cultural history of the area.
As manager, Clysdale has a unique perspective on some of the items on display and shared what she believes is the most unique piece in her opinion.
"So, within this room, I would say it's our cricket set. Cricket has gone up and down in popularity over the last century, a lot of the original settlers were from Britain, the Barr Colonists, so it was popular for the first few years, it fell out of favour and is now making a return."
She hopes they leave a valuable impression on the kids when they visit next week.
