Rust Kathleen Nesbitt
On July 27, 2024, Ruth Kathleen Nesbitt went to her heavenly home. She was in her 98th year. Although the last few years have been a struggle, she has had a full and rewarding life.
Ruth was born in Lashburn, Saskatchewan, and spent her early years on her family’s farm. She took her schooling in Lashburn and went to a teacher’s college in Saskatoon. She taught in a few one-room schools and then married Allan Nesbitt and spent many wonderful years at their farm in the Tyrone district.
There was a lot of visiting with family and friends and the visiting continued when they bought a laundromat in Kelowna. Ruth enjoyed many hours volunteering at the Kelowna hospital: children’s ward, McNair unit, and the chapel. She drove once a week for 30 years for Meals on Wheels. She spent many years volunteering at the Salvation Army and enjoying the Sunday worship and fellowship. In 1979 she was chosen Woman of the Year.
Ruth is survived by her daughters, Audrey (Jim), Susan, and Shirley (Chris); her grandchildren, Joyanna (Chris), and Jan (Derek); great-grandchildren, Aislyn (Malcolm), Jakob (Lashonda); great-great-grandson, Amias; sister-in-law, Rose; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Allan; son, Michael; grandson, Nathan; parents, Virgil, and Pauline Cressman; and her siblings: Rhoda, Jean, Jim, and Judy.
Many thanks to Cottonwoods for their care and compassion in the last three years.
A graveside inurnment will be held at Lashburn, Saskatchewan, at a later date. She will be laid to rest beside her husband and son.
