Turtleford RCMP responded to a copper wire theft on Nov.4 in Frenchman Butte, Saskatchewan.
Officers immediately investigated the work site, reviewing surveillance footage and identifying a suspect vehicle.
The following morning, police observed the suspect vehicle in Paradise Hill, SK, and attempted a traffic stop. The driver ignored emergency lights and sirens, fleeing the scene and damaging a fence. The vehicle eventually stopped, and the driver fled from the scene. Inside the truck, officers discovered approximately 425 kilograms of stolen copper wire.
With help from Police Dog Services, officers arrested the suspect shortly after.
The suspect, identified as 24-year-old Justin Moore from Paradise Hill, now faces several charges. These include flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm, operating while prohibited, mischief under $5,000, and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. They also arrested him on warrants for failing to attend court, mischief under $5,000, and possessing stolen property.
Moore appeared in Lloydminster Provincial Court on November 13, 2024.
The ongoing investigation led to a second arrest on November 5 in Paradise Hill.
Levi Morris, a 25-year-old from the same community, was charged with theft over $5,000 and mischief over $5,000.
Morris is scheduled to appear in St. Walburg court on December 17, 2024.
Police continue investigating the incident, and urge residents to report suspicious activity.
