The Town of Bonnyville is looking to impose a tax to repave a section of road.

At the Feb. 25 council meeting, the 47 Ave. back lane local improvement tax (LIT) bylaw was discussed.

The section that will be repaved is between 47 St. and 46 St.

The bylaw was created with the provision construction costs would be collected through the LIT with 20 per cent back from local property owners and 80 per cent paid by the city.

“This is an interesting alleyway, it looks like there’s only four properties on the alley,” said Coun. Neil Langridge.

Letters were sent out to the local property owners. Administration confirmed they received two responses in favour of the bylaw with one not responding and the last saying no.

Under the bylaw, $113,848.20 is proposed to be borrowed and $22,769.64 is to be charged back against the property owners annually for a period of 10 years at 4.73 per cent.

Council voted unanimously in favour of providing the bylaw its first reading. Administration will now send out notices again to the property owners and they will have 30 days to respond.

In the interim capital budget for the back lane LIT, council included $120,000 to pay for the project.
