Members of Conexus, Cornerstone, and Synergy Credit Unions will soon vote on a major merger plan.
If the deal goes ahead, Synergy Board Chair Neil Carruthers says members can still visit branches just like they always have.

“We love our branches,” said Carruthers. “We have high market share in our rural branch areas. That’s not on the table for us to step away from that.”
In total, the new credit union would have 57 branches in 50 communities across Saskatchewan. That means no branches will close as a result of the merger.
Synergy CEO Trevor Beaton also stressed face-to-face service will continue.
“We have invested in bricks and mortar in our branch network for all of our 80-plus year history,” said Beaton. “To do digital in that exceptional way we do face-to-face would be a massive win for our members.”
He added the plan would give members a better experience both online and in person. Something Carruthers agrees with.
“With four generations, you have a lot of different asks,” he said. “On a typical week, we were in the branch, we were doing digital banking, and we were using the call centre. This merger strengthens all three of those areas.”
Members will be able to vote online or in person at their local branch. Voting begins in early June. They require a 75 per cent yes vote among members to complete the vote.
“We want members to be informed,” he said. “Then make a decision based on that.”
Additionally, the boards of all three credit unions have already approved the merger. If members vote yes, the newly merged credit union will launch January 1, 2026.
“The name on the outside of the building may change,” said Carruthers. “But the service on the inside will stay the same.”
