“Upon arrival on scene, first responders attempted life-saving efforts but, despite their efforts, three were declared deceased on scene and two were transported by EMS with severe injuries,” stated the RCMP.

According to the Police, the minivan failed to stop, and the semi collision happened afterward. They do not believe drugs or alcohol played a role.

The incident killed two 29-year-old people from Saddle Lake Cree Nation, one man and one woman. A 21-year-old woman from Edmonton also died.

Both highways are now open again. Police are still investigating.
