Try-a-trade coming back for 13th year

As the weather turns from winter to summer and construction season heats up, try-a-trade is coming back.

Dorthy Carson, executive director of the Lloydminster Construction Association, says the event is a chance to highlight trades.

“We’re promoting trades to over 1,700 students from different school boards this year,” said Carson. “It’s a chance for them to learn about what is available to them in various construction industries.”

The event is scheduled for April 30 at the Lloydminster Agricultural Exhibition. It will run from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and feature automotive, electrical, piping and various other trades positions.

The event is expanding this year past just trades, giving students even more opportunity to connect with prospective employers.

“We’ve expanded it from just the trades to trades and technology and safety as well,” said Carson. “We want everybody, including parents to know, working in trades means safety comes first. We have quite a few exhibitors to show that as well.”
