Police confirmed Tuesday, June 16, they are reaching out to the Lloydminster Catholic School Division (LCSD) to determine the next steps, despite having received no formal complaints from the public.
“As of this moment, it wasn’t actually reported to police. It’s just purely been social media complaints,” said Staff Sgt. Bruce MacLean of the Lloydminster RCMP.
“However, because of what’s being posted on social media, we are reaching out to the Catholic school division to determine if police need to be involved.”
MacLean indicated that while a formal investigation had not officially commenced, the nature of the online allegations means police involvement is highly likely to escalate.
“The police are in contact with the Catholic school division to determine our involvement,” MacLean said. “I would guess that the information I just provided you will change to ‘there’s an ongoing investigation’ probably very shortly.”
The Meridian Source has reached out to the school division for comment. No response was received by publication time.
More to come.
