Charlene Rowein, Rotary Club of Lloydminster president, took to the podium outlining her term’s focus.

“When we look at membership, I think that one is very important. To keep clubs going like Rotary, we need those volunteers from our community,” she said, noting their goal is to add seven new members, increasing membership to 55.

She explained her time in Rotary began over a decade ago when she was still a part of the then Lloydminster Interval Home Society.

“I found that the values and what we’re trying to achieve as Rotarians fits very well with my own values and my desire to always do good in the community,” Rowein said.

As president, some of her goals include increasing service participation.

“I really encourage everyone to start thinking about what would you like to do this year in Rotary,” Rowein said.

She spoke about some donation goals the club has: $3,000 for the Rotary Foundation and $2,000 for PolioPlus. Service projects are also on the list of things she wants Rotarians to be involved in.

“I think that came through the survey, actually doing hands-on projects throughout the community,” she said.

Rowein also highlighted youth in the community, discussing the possibility of working with the Lloydminster Youth Council.

“Considering that we have the youth council here in town already, rather than starting up a brand new interact club, a lot of the work that the youth council does is quite a good fit for what we do here in Rotary,” she explained.

“So, rather than going through the whole process of creating another club, why not partner with the youth council.”
