Man arrested for child luring in Lloyd

RCMP has charged a 29-year-old man following a cross-country investigation into alleged sexual offences and child luring involving a minor on Snapchat.

Travis James Birt, originally from Prince Edward Island, was arrested in Nova Scotia on May 27 in connection with an RCMP investigation out of Lloydminster.

Birt and charged with:

  • Sexual assault
  • Sexual interference
  • Child luring
  • Possession of child pornography
  • Making sexually explicit material available to a child

Lloydminster RCMP say they received a complaint on March 18 about an adult exchanging sexually explicit images with a youth through the social media platform.

Police allege the suspect travelled to the Lloydminster area from Ontario with the intent to commit further sexual offences.

Police obtained a Canada-wide warrant and arrested Birt in Nova Scotia on May 27.

Birt was remanded into custody after appearing before a justice of the peace. He is scheduled to appear in Saskatchewan Provincial Court in Lloydminster on June 9.

“We would like to thank Nova Scotia RCMP for their assistance in arresting this individual,” said Staff Sgt. Jerry Nutbrown of the Lloydminster RCMP GIS.

“We have sent out Birt’s picture in hopes other potential victims will come forth and speak with their local police.”
