A request from the Vermilion River Flying Club to host a pancake breakfast for pilots on June 21 has been received as information by council.

The pancake breakfast would coincide with the upcoming Alberta Air Tours event. The club is also seeking an in-kind donation from the town to provide chairs and tables, as well as asking the grass be mowed.
When speaking with the club, administration recommended trying to seek sponsorships or partnerships from local organizations to provide the pancakes and other items.
The club was also encouraged to seek funding from the County of Vermilion River.
“It’s great to hear you guys encouraged them to go to the county knowing that, as of right now, the county’s indicated they won’t provide any support for our airport,” said Deputy Mayor Joshua Rayment.
“Maybe having some county residents engaged and reach out to their councillors and their county will help increase that and increase their want to help us.”
While the club is looking for a monetary donation, not indicating how much they wanted deterred council when making its decision.
“It’s kind of hard to put a dollar amount on it,” said Coun. Robert Snow. “My thought is, we take this as information and ask the club to give us a dollar amount instead of us guessing a number they want.”
The club says they’ll have around 40 aircraft attending the event.
“Talking with some of the flying club, I think they’ll probably get more than 40 aircraft there, which is good, the more the merrier,” said Coun. Kevin Martin, agreeing with Coun. Snow on the missing dollar request.
Council ultimately chose to receive the item as information hoping to get a definitive dollar amount from the club before making a decision.
