A newly-formed Economic Development committee in Lloydminster is appointing its first members.
The committee, which had its terms of reference passed on June 23, will see six members appointed plus one member of council.

Coun. David Lopez, Glenn Stang, Don Shaw, Ben Harrison, Michelle Benning, Mike Strilchuk and Ethan Walker have all been appointed following a council motion at the Sept. 8 meeting.
Katlin Ducherer, City of Lloydminster economic development officer, spoke to the city’s excitement over the members being appointed.
“With this committee, we are pretty excited about the six individuals that have joined us and we are excited about the cross-industry perspective they bring to the table,” she said, explaining the field of expertise each member brings.
“We have Glenn, who brings finance, Don, who brings finance, retail and ag, Ben, who brings small business, institution and education, Michelle, development and retail, Mike, oil and gas, ag, manufacturing and Ethan, ag and finance.”
Lopez filled the last seat on council, bringing his background as a developer and businessman in Lloydminster.
The committee is set to meet four times annually.
“(The committee) will work towards promoting economic development initiatives that enhance the region’s economic well-being,” said Ducherer.
They will also advise on strategies and programs that attract new business and retain existing ones, facilitate partnerships between business, government and other stakeholders, identify and address economic challenges and opportunity and support workforce development and job creation initiatives
The member appointments are for a term of two years.
