The committee will engage members of the public and industry for matters relating to economic development. The city will ask interested members of the public to put their name forward to participate for two-year terms.
The committee will also come with budget implications.
“There will be some budget implications in regards to costs of meeting,” said Katlin Ducherer, City of Lloydminster economic development officer. “We do have meetings built into our budget as well as potential travel.”
Ducherer says she’s confident they’ll be able to fill the committee with public representatives.
“I’m confident we will get six based on the request for a committee,” she said. “If we don’t, my recommendation will be to move forward with however many applicants we receive.”
The committee will consist of one member of council, appointed annually, one member of administration and six members of the public.
Coun. Michael Diachuk shared his excitement for the committee.
“I think it’s an opportunity to tap into that wisdom many successful business people in the community have and deal with the recruitment, retention of businesses and expansion,” he said.
Council passed a motion approving the terms of reference for the economic development advisory committee.
