RCMP said officers from the Onion Lake detachment responded to a report of a disturbance outside a residence on Sesame Street at about 12:30 p.m. on March 31.

Police said two men approached the home, with one allegedly striking the door and shouting at occupants inside. The pair did not enter the residence and left the area, with one departing on a dirt bike.

Officers later located a man riding a dirt bike matching the suspect’s description and attempted a traffic stop. Police said the rider failed to stop and fled down a path inaccessible to patrol vehicles. Officers discontinued the pursuit but continued searching the area.

Later that afternoon, police located a dirt bike abandoned in a ditch. The vehicle matched the one seen earlier and was seized. Investigation determined the dirt bike had been reported stolen from Mervin.

On April 1 at about 9:30 a.m., officers arrested a suspect at a residence in Onion Lake.

Kendall Cardinal, 26, of Onion Lake, is charged with two counts of failing to comply with a release order, flight from a peace officer, resisting or obstructing a peace officer, and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

Police said Cardinal was also arrested on an outstanding warrant from Loon Lake RCMP.

He made his first appearance in Lloydminster provincial court on April 2 and was remanded in custody. He is scheduled to return to court on April 8.
