A four-day crime-reduction operation in Lloydminster led to dozens of arrests, criminal charges and the seizure of 28 vehicles as multiple law enforcement agencies targeted offenders across the city.
The operation, conducted from July 14 to 17, involved the Lloydminster RCMP, specialized RCMP units from Alberta and Saskatchewan, the Saskatchewan Marshals Service and the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team. Officers focused on non-compliant drivers, people withoutstanding arrest warrants and individuals orlocations identified as ongoing enforcement concerns.
Police said officers stopped more than 200 vehicles during the operation, issuing 118 provincial violation tickets and 197 warnings.
The enforcement effort also resulted in 17 drug-related licence suspensions and vehicleimpoundments, 11 alcohol-related suspensions and impoundments, and the seizure of 28 vehicles.
Investigators laid two charges under theControlled Drugs and Substances Act and 16 additional Criminal Code charges. Officers also executed 52 outstanding arrest warrants anddealt with other offences, including bylawcontraventions and the recovery of stolenproperty.
“Operations such as this deter crime, in addition to making drivers become more aware of obeying traffic laws, which makes our city safer,” Cpl. Jason DeCoste of the Lloydminster RCMP Crime Reduction Unit said in a news release.
DeCoste said bringing together partner agenciesand specialized RCMP units allows police to enforce the law more effectively while enhancing public safety.
