The Town of Vermilion is supporting a local swim club through a grant allocation.

The Vermilion Vipers Swim Club submitted a grant application to the parks, recreation, culture and environment board, requesting $1,000 in funding.
Deputy Mayor Kevin Martin explained that the board has up to $1,000 to allocate to groups each quarter.
“Each quarter, we have $1,000 that we have available for different groups to apply for,” he said. “This was the only (application) we had received.”
The board recommended allocating $500 to the club.
“I think this is a worthy group. They didn’t get the full amount they had written the application for, a little bit because I think they’re numbers added up to only needing $300,” Coun. Justin Clark explained. “We decided as a board to meet them in the middle at $500.
He said the board is working to make the grant applications more accessible.
“We are working within the board as well to optimize the website and make it a little easier to reply,” he said.
Administration confirmed the grant is also available right on their website.
“One thing to add, we have included the parks and rec grant application on our website, so user groups will be able to access that through the Town of Vermilion,” Johan Jones, director of community and protective services said.
The remaining $500 the board has available will get carried over to the next quarter if they don’t receive more applications this quarter.
“We hope to reach out to more groups to look at this grant application over the year,” Martin said.
Council approved the request from the parks, recreation, culture and environment board to give the Vermilion Vipers Swim Club $500.
