Senior government officials and agricultural leaders from across Canada, the United States and Mexico have gathered in Calgary for the 35th annual Tri-National Agricultural Accord.

Running from Sept. 28 through Oct. 1, the four-day event brings together roughly 180 delegates to address pressing trade, security and policy issues facing the North American farming sector. Topics on this year’s agenda include animal disease prevention, plant health promotion and economic development in rural communities.
“The Tri-National Agricultural Accord represents a long-standing commitment between Canada, the United States and Mexico to work together on agricultural issues,” said Alberta Agriculture and Irrigation Minister Tara Sawyer. “This gathering provides an opportunity to explore economic and trade opportunities, strengthen food security, spark innovation and build productive relationships.”
Delegates will also recognize the United Nations’ International Year of the Woman Farmer 2026, highlighting the vital role women play in food systems across all three nations.
“We believe that strengthening international alliances opens opportunities for our producers, promotes knowledge exchange and generates well-being for rural communities,” said Margarita Maria Galeana Torres, Secretary of Agricultural Development for the Mexican state of Morelos.
Canadian representation at the summit includes agriculture ministers from British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Nova Scotia and New Brunswicsk, as well as senior officials from Prince Edward Island, Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec. The U.S. delegation features leaders from nearly 30 states, alongside delegates from at least four Mexican states and 58 industry organizations.
First established in 1992, the accord rotates host duties annually among the three member nations. This marks the second time Alberta has hosted the event. The 2025 accord took place in Morelia, Mexico, while the 2027 meeting is scheduled to be held in Baltimore, Md.
