The two-day lineup, scheduled for May 7 and 8, focuses on connection, education and reducing stigma around maternal mental health challenges.

A Maternal Mental Health Community Day will be held May 7 from 9 a.m. to noon, offering a come-and-go format with local organizations, resources and support services. The family-friendly event will include speakers, an indoor playground, refreshments, giveaways and childminding.

Later that evening, “Chalk the Walk” begins at 6 p.m. at Bud Miller All Seasons Park. Participants are invited to decorate sidewalks with messages of encouragement, gratitude and mental health awareness ahead of the following day’s walk.

The annual “Walk With Her” event takes place May 8 at 10 a.m., also at the park. The event includes a community walk, a session from the Move Your Mood program and a barbecue. Participants are encouraged to walk in support of themselves, loved ones or in memory of those affected by perinatal mental health challenges.

Organizers say the walk also serves as a fundraiser, with proceeds supporting local programming, including the Mothers First and Move Your Mood initiatives, as well as education efforts in the community.

Perinatal mental health challenges affect about one in five individuals, yet many do not seek help due to stigma or lack of awareness, organizers say. The initiative has spent more than a decade working to improve access to support and encourage open conversations around maternal mental health.

Community members are encouraged to attend and participate in the events. For more information or to donate, contact Midwest Family Connections or visit the initiative’s Facebook group.
