Lloydminster’s sports card scene is hitting a massive milestone. The Border City Card Show returns to the WLS Convention Centre this Saturday for its largest event to date, expanding to a completely sold-out 94 tables.

Organizer Chris Brinklow attributes the explosive growth to strong word-of-mouth praise from collectors and vendors, even with competing events like the Toronto Sports Card Expo and a Saskatoon show drawing away a handful of regulars.

The community-driven event continues to stand out nationally, earning features on hobby podcasts like Ottawa’s Friday Nights with Phil and Minnesota’s Caffeine & Cardboard for its unique non-profit model.

This weekend’s event takes place on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the WLS Convention Centre (Lloyd Ex). Admission is $5 for adults and $2 for teens.

All proceeds from the show directly raise money for the I Love Alberta Boobs charity. Primary show sponsor Border City Games is hosting an all-day Magic the Gathering tournament, with all proceeds also benefiting the charity.

In hobby trends, Pokémon is currently booming, while Macklin Celebrini remains the top chase for hockey card collectors.

Although Kelly Buchberger was originally booked as a special guest, he had to cancel after taking an associate coaching position with the AHL’s San Diego Gulls in the Anaheim Ducks system, meaning there will be no NHL alumni guest this time.

Meanwhile, new sponsor Border Inn & Suites has joined the event to offer special discounted vendor rates for out-of-town travellers. Looking ahead, the next show is already officially scheduled for April 17, 2027.
