Turtleford man charged after missing teen found injured in North Battleford motel

A 22-year-old man from Turtleford is facing multiple charges after a missing teenage girl was found injured in a North Battleford motel room.

According to Battlefords RCMP, officers received a report of a missing female teenager at about 6 p.m. on April 25.

Police said the investigation led officers to a motel room in North Battleford, where an adult man was located. Officers searched the room and found the missing teen in a locked bathroom suffering from what police described as serious injuries.

As a result of the investigation, Deland “Nipin” Okanee, 22, of Turtleford, Sask., has been charged with sexual assault, abduction of a person under 16, sexual interference, two counts of forcible confinement, assault, obstructing justice and uttering threats.

Okanee is scheduled to appear in North Battleford provincial court on May 22.

RCMP said no further information will be released out of consideration for the victim’s privacy and well-being.
