Lloydminster council approved the commitment of $235K from the road infrastructure capital reserve and the authorization for the County of Vermilion River to proceed with the rehabilitation projects on RR 13 north and south.
“These roadway segments continue to experience deterioration and ongoing maintenance requirements. The proposed roadway rehabilitation work will improve surface condition, drivability, and extend the overall service life of the roadway network within this area,” said Jordan Newton, director of transportation and parks services.
According to administration, work on Range Road 13 North will involve reclaiming the existing oiled surface into road base and placing a new cold mix surface treatment.
Work on the southern portion of the roadway will rework the existing oiled surface with additional gravel, sales oil application and relay.
The county was also eyeing work on Range Road 11, something the city was not recommending proceeding with.
“At this time, administration is not recommending to proceed with Range Road 11 north. It is not at the same level of deterioration as the Range Road 13 segments,” said Newton.
Don Stang, Lloydminster’s executive manager of operations, clarified that they will be completing work on the entirety of Range Road 13.
“They’re going to do the whole road, we’re going to pay for what’s inside the city boundary,” he said.
Costs are currently estimated, but administration is confident the work can be done within its budget.
“We will only be invoiced the actual cost, not on the estimate,” said Newton. “This estimate, I am fairly confident we will be able to do these sections of the project within budget.”
