The shelter has an upcoming barbecue fundraiser June 20 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Pet Valu in Lloydminster.
Chelsea Reeves, funding and event coordinator with the shelter, explained funds will go toward surgery for one of its residents.
“A lot of the proceeds are going to be going towards Hank (the dog) who needs dental surgery,” she said. “He needs a $2,500 vet bill in order to get his teeth to where they should be.”
She noted that without support from the community, they wouldn’t be able to help all their animals.
“We want to be able to help as many animals as we can. Without barbecues, fundraisers and stuff like that, we can’t,” Reeves said. “Whenever you come to a barbecue or fundraiser, you’re not just buying a hot dog, you’re helping buy a second chance.
“Our community really helps keep us going.”
Outside of the barbecue, people can support the shelter by donating online or in person. Those looking to support Hank can also make a donation directly to his surgery.
“If they go to the (Lloydminster) Animal Hospital and say, ‘Hey, I want to donate to Hank’s dental surgery,’ they can do it right there as well,” she explained.
A hot dog and pop is $5 at the barbecue, which will also feature face painting, glitter tattoos and adoptable animals.
