Saskatchewan’s manufacturing and wholesale trade sectors are driving significant economic momentum, leading all Canadian provinces in key growth metrics for May, according to new data from Statistics Canada.

Manufacturing sales in the province surged by 9.6 per cent in May 2026 compared to April 2026, reaching a total value of more than $2 billion. The sharp month-over-month increase earned Saskatchewan the top spot among provinces for manufacturing sales growth.
Wholesale trade also saw strong gains, jumping 17.3 per cent compared to May 2025 to hit $4 billion. The annual increase secured Saskatchewan the number one ranking for year-over-year wholesale trade growth across the country.
“These results demonstrate the confidence businesses continue to have in Saskatchewan and the advantages our province offers,” Trade and Export Development Minister Warren Kaeding said in a statement Wednesday. “Growth in manufacturing and wholesale trade reflects the province’s ability to compete in markets around the world.”
The wholesale figures exclude petroleum, petroleum products, other hydrocarbons, oilseed and grain. Manufacturing figures track the dollar value of shipments, inventories and orders sold by provincial manufacturers.
The latest figures build on a broader economic expansion in the province. Statistics Canada previously reported that Saskatchewan’s real GDP reached a record high of $85.4 billion in 2025, representing a 2.2 per cent increase that outpaced the national average of 1.7 per cent.
Private capital investment in the province also grew by 12 per cent last year to $13.6 billion, which was the highest growth rate among Canadian provinces. Provincial officials credited the momentum to the government’s current investment attraction strategy, Securing the Next Decade of Growth.
