The Government of Saskatchewan hosted the Crop Reporter Appreciation Event to celebrate volunteers reaching milestones of 25, 30, 35, 40 and 45 years of service.

The provincial crop report relies on a network of more than 200 volunteer reporters across Saskatchewan’s agricultural regions. During the growing season, these volunteers track weekly field conditions, seeding and harvest progress, precipitation and soil moisture levels.

Agriculture minister David Marit thanked the volunteers for their ongoing dedication, noting that while their work often takes place behind the scenes, it keeps the broader agricultural community connected and informed.

Lyle Ehrman, a volunteer reporter recognized for 45 years of service, emphasized the broader impact of the program.

“Being a crop reporter is far more than just reading a rain gauge; it comes with significant benefits and a real sense of purpose,” Ehrman said.

“We are not just looking at our own backyards; we are providing the raw data that feeds into a much larger, worldwide picture of food security.”

The Saskatchewan crop report is released weekly throughout the production season to provide producers, industry stakeholders and the public with operational updates on the provincial agriculture sector.
