Saskatchewan’s retail trade outpaced all other Canadian provinces in May, buoyed by a 2.9 per cent month-over-month increase in sales, according to new data from Statistics Canada.

Seasonally adjusted retail sales reached $2.3 billion for the month, placing the province at the top of national growth rankings.
“This increase in retail trade will directly lead to more jobs and opportunities for the people of the province,” said Trade and Export Development Minister Warren Kaeding in a statement. “Our vibrant retail industry is spurring investment into Saskatchewan communities and strengthening the economy.”
The retail growth builds on broader economic momentum across the province. Statistics Canada figures show Saskatchewan’s real GDP hit an all-time high of $85.4 billion in 2025, expanding by 2.2 per cent — well ahead of the national average growth rate of 1.7 per cent.
Private capital investment in the province also surged by 12 per cent last year to reach $13.6 billion, leading all provinces in capital growth.
