The Saskatchewan government is accepting nominations for the 2027 Saskatchewan Order of Merit, the province’s highest honour recognizing outstanding achievement and service.

The nomination window opened Sept. 24 and closes Nov. 30, according to a provincial announcement. Lloydminster-area residents can put forward candidates who have made significant contributions to the province.
Who can be nominated
Lieutenant Governor Bernadette McIntyre said members of the Order of Merit represent some of Saskatchewan’s most accomplished people.
“Members of the Order of Merit are among the most accomplished people Saskatchewan has produced,” McIntyre said. “Past recipients earned this prestigious honour by attaining extraordinary success in a wide range of fields, and by making substantial contributions to our province and country. I urge our citizens to nominate someone they know who is deserving of this special recognition.”
Established in 1985, the Order recognizes achievement in agriculture, business, industry, community leadership, public service, the arts, research and volunteerism, according to the province.
Nominees must be current or former long-term residents of Saskatchewan, and nominations can be submitted by individuals or groups, though the nomination must be for a person rather than an organization, the province said. Posthumous nominations are accepted within one year of the nominee’s death.
How to submit a nomination
Online submissions are encouraged, but the province said nominations will also be accepted by mail, courier or in person ahead of the Nov. 30 deadline.

Recipients of the 2027 Order will be formally invested by the Lieutenant Governor at a ceremony next year and are recognized within the Canadian Honours System, allowing them to use the post-nominal letters S.O.M., according to the province.
The Order of Merit follows a similar recognition program in Alberta, where nominations opened earlier this year for that province’s highest honour. Saskatchewan also runs a separate recognition program for grassroots contributors, with nominations for the Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal handled on a different timeline.
