A long-held dream for the team at the Lloydminster Animal Hospital has officially become a reality following their move into a brand-new, purpose-built facility designed to handle the region’s growing veterinary needs for decades to come.
After operating out of a former clinic that staff say had grown far too small to keep up with daily demand, the veterinary team transitioned to the new building a couple of months ago. The updated space boasts expanded capacity, improved patient flow, and a design specifically tailored to minimize stress for both animals and their owners.

“This has been our dream for quite a few years,” said Dr. Corin Berg, one of the owners of the Lloydminster Animal Hospital. “Definitely our old building was just, it was too small. We couldn’t handle the workload. It was frustrating for us and I think it was frustrating for owners. The idea was not to plan for what we need today, but what we need for 10 to 15 years down the road.”
To ensure the new space incorporated the best industry practices, team members, including Dr. Wennekamp and Dr. Newman, travelled to Edmonton referral centres to examine layout choices, workflow efficiencies, and features to avoid.
The clinic then collaborated with a specialized veterinary design firm to craft a floor plan capable of accommodating both large and small animals under a single roof, a unique challenge for clinic layout experts.
Key features of the new facility include:
- Stress-Reducing Layouts: Separate housing and care zones for different species, such as keeping dogs and cats apart to keep stress levels low.
- Streamlined Traffic Flow: One-way pathways and circular workflows designed to eliminate the two-way traffic bottlenecks that plagued the previous location.
- Expanded Capacity: Additional exam rooms and specialized spaces that allow veterinarians to see more patients without long wait times, alongside upgraded facilities to serve the region’s large equine population within a 60-mile radius.
Location was another critical factor during the planning stages. The owners selected a site close to the highway for easy public access and convenient transit for clients bringing in livestock or large animals.
With the move complete, staff say they are thrilled with the final result and proud to serve the local community from a facility built for the future.
“It was a big project, but the end result, we’re very, very happy with,” Berg said.
