Rustlers hold off NAIT Ooks in 4-3 ACAC mens’ soccer thriller

The Lakeland College Rustlers built an early four-goal cushion and survived a frantic push by the NAIT Ooks to secure a 4-3 victory in Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) men’s soccer action on Oct. 4.

Joshua Malin sparked the offense for Lakeland, tallying a goal and two assists. Johnathan Murenje, Haruna Ibrahim and Samuel Thompson each added a marker during the Rustlers’ explosive first-half run.

NAIT stormed back before the break, pulling within one courtesy of goals from Jameson Kiezik, Mark Hintetegger, and Jackson Csobot. However, both defensive units locked down during a scoreless second half.

Jordan Szutiak made four saves in net to earn the win for the Rustlers, who held on despite Murenje picking up a second yellow card in the 90th minute.

With the victory, Lakeland moves to 1-7-0 on the season, while NAIT falls to 6-3-0.
