Rangers Grab Early Control

In an action-packed contest at the Cenovus Energy Hub, the Fort Sask U18AAA Enhance It Rangers built an early advantage and held off a persistent comeback attempt by the Lloydminster Lancers to secure a hard-fought road victory.

Fort Saskatchewan set the pace immediately after the opening faceoff. Just 1:24 into the contest, Chase Sabatino finished off a passing play from Jacob Bevington and Gavin Richardson to put the Rangers on the board. The visiting squad doubled its lead shortly after at the 3:37 mark when Sabatino found the net again, this time off setups from Alex Letourneau and Kaiden Chartrand.

Lancers Answer Back

Rather than letting the game slip away, Lloydminster responded with an immediate offensive push. Graydon Kvill cut the deficit in half just 14 seconds later, burying a feed from Gavin Pratt and Kyle Welsh at 3:51. The Lancers kept the pressure on and drew a power play minutes later, where Welsh capitalized at 5:34, assisted by Easton Carfantan and Pratt, to draw even at 2-2.

The rapid back-and-forth exchange continued through the remainder of the opening frame as both teams traded offensive surges. Grayson Conrad put Fort Saskatchewan back in front at 15:08, converting assists from Hunter Colombe and Oscar Veldman.

Richardson then extended the Rangers’ lead to 4-2 at 15:51 on a setup from Bevington, before Lloydminster’s Beckham Brown answered right back at 16:05, assisted by Jaxon Skarsen and Hunter Prybysh, capping off a wild seven-goal opening period.

Special Teams And Shot Totals

Fort Saskatchewan maintained the edge in shots on goal throughout the game, finishing with a 36-29 advantage. While the Lancers found success on special teams — converting two of five power-play chances while keeping Fort Saskatchewan empty-handed on four attempts — the Rangers’ 5-on-5 play proved to be the deciding factor.

Physicality remained high on both sides, with Fort Saskatchewan collecting 16 penalty minutes across eight infractions and Lloydminster taking 14 minutes on seven calls.

By staying disciplined during critical stretches and leaning on a balanced lineup, the Rangers successfully weathered Lloydminster’s surges to walk away with two valuable points in the standings.
