The town proclaimed National Volunteer Week to be from April 27 to May 3.

The announcement was made at the April 1 council meeting with council acknowledging the volunteers in the community.

“The Town of Vermilion would be nothing without its amazing volunteers and all of the great community organizations and events would cease to exist,” said Deputy Mayor Joshua Rayment.

He took the opportunity to thank all the volunteers that have graced the town.

“I’m ever grateful for all the amazing volunteers we have, now, in the future, and from the past,” said Rayment.

While the end of April is recognized as National Volunteer Week, Coun. Kevin Martin says it’s not just those seven days the work is recognized.

“It’s not just April 27 to May 3, it’s all year round we thank the volunteers of our community and outside our community that make our community what it is,” he said.

Council also encouraged people to get out and volunteer.

“It really gives you a sense of community pride that so many people are willing to step up and go that extra mile for non-profits for their neighbours for the clubs in town,” said Coun. Robert Snow.

“If anyone listening has the opportunity get out there and volunteer.”
