Jana Thompson, chief operating officer of The Olive Tree, said the issue began when staff noticed water.

“So what happened was we randomly had hot water bubbling up out of our cement floor at the community center,” said Thompson.

Frost and shifting cracked the aging underground pipes.

“Because of that … we have a ton of pipes cracked. So we actually have to run new water lines again,” she said.

Contractors are placing the latest lines in the ceiling rather than the floor to prevent further issues.

“If we were to actually try and fix it within the ground, I mean, it would be insane,” she said. “We’d have to close everything down.”

Instead, the organization will continue to operate its thrift store, food bank and meal program during the work. They’re thankful for those community partners who choose to step up and help.

“Incredible that when we have an issue like this, a group like Rotary can just come stand beside us and help us out,” said Thompson. “They know what it means for us to close down.”

Thompson added that the first phase of repairs will cost about $7,000.

“It means the world to us that they can come alongside us and support and help us fix this issue,” she said.
