Almost 1,000 people showed up for pre-season junior A hockey on Friday, Sept. 12, as the Lloydminster Bobcats played their historic first game in the spanking-new Cenovus Energy Hub.

The AJHL’s Bobcats rose to the occasion and defeated the SJHL’s Battlefords North Stars 7-1.
Two days later, Battlefords posted a 5-3 victory over Lloydminster as both teams finished their pre-season with a Sunday afternoon game at Thunderchild First Nation, near Turtleford, Sask.
More drama is in store for the Hub this weekend as the Bobcats begin their AJHL regular season with two home games against the Fort McMurray Oil Barons on Friday and Saturday (Sept. 19 and 20).
Lloydminster staged its training camp and played two earlier home exhibition games at the Centennial Civic Centre, an integral part of the Bobcats’ history for 40-plus years.
