ATCO is informing Lloydminster residents they are undertaking an electricity meter upgrade in the city as part of a grid innovation initiative.

ATCO is working towards an integrated, smart electrical grid to support the increased electricity demand and technological developments. ATCO is investing in Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) in Lloydminster. AMI is the latest in metering technology, using meters to track consumption and power quality in real-time. The installation of AMI technology in Alberta allows faster detection of outages and enables customers to be better informed of electricity usage patterns.

Over the next three years, ATCO will be exchanging electricity meters in the City of Lloydminster. The meter exchange is a simple process and ATCO crews will present themselves before any work is started. The meter exchange process takes approximately fifteen minutes and there will be a brief (approximately five minutes) power disruption as the meter exchange takes place. ATCO crews do not require access inside your home. Once your power is safely re-established, the ATCO field representative will remove all equipment and materials, including the old meter.

All ATCO staff will wear appropriate safety and personal protective equipment and ATCO clothing and identification.
