Nominations are now being accepted for Lloydminster’s Volunteer Appreciation Awards, happening this spring alongside National Volunteer Week at the end of April.
New for 2023 is the introduction of three volunteer awards, which will be presented by Mayor Gerald Aalbers during the annual Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast at the Lloydminster Golf and Curling Centre on Saturday, April 22.
The three award categories:
- Most Hours Volunteered in 2022
- Longest Volunteer Service Award
- Honourable Volunteer Service Award (awarded to an outstanding volunteer with a big heart and drive to serve the community)
“Volunteerism is a defining characteristic of Lloydminster’s identity, with a thriving community of skilled workers and professionals eagerly seeking opportunities to lend a hand to those in need,” said Mayor Gerald Aalbers. “From supporting large and small events to serving on the board of directors for community organizations or helping those in need, these dedicated individuals generously give their time and expertise to improve our community. We should all take pride in their unwavering commitment to volunteerism.”
“Volunteers are so important to our community, dedicating countless hours to various initiatives such as preparing meals for seniors, mentoring programs for children, and organizing sporting events,” added Patrick Lancaster, manager, social programs and services. “Their selflessness and expertise are invaluable, and it is crucial that we acknowledge their contributions and show appreciation for their commitment.”
To nominate someone in one of the three award categories, visit Lloydminster.ca/Volunteer. The nomination deadline is 11:59 p.m. on March 31.
This free event is not only for FCSS Lloydminster to show its support for the hard work and dedication of all the community’s volunteers for making Lloydminster a great place to live, work and play – it’s for the community to give thanks to those who give back.
The volunteer appreciation breakfast and awards ceremony will be held on April 22 from 9-11 a.m. Registration for breakfast is required, either through a volunteering organization or on an individual basis at Lloydminster.ca/Volunteer or by phone at 780-875-6184 Ext. 2919. Registration deadline is April 21, 2023.
