URLACHER: It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Neil Anton Urlacher, of Okotoks, Alberta. Neil passed away peacefully on August 7, 2023 at the Foothills Country Hospice surrounded by family at the age of 86 years. Neil was born on April 20, 1937 in Macklin, Saskatchewan to Anton and Felicia Urlacher (nee Schmidt). Neil was the youngest of 15 children (six brothers and nine sisters). Neil grew up on the family farm near Denzil, Saskatchewan. Darrell was predeceased by: his parents, Ira and Evelyn Haight; brother, Dennis Haight; and sisters, Dianne Shea and Jacqueline Henry. In 1955, Neil went on to St. Thomas College in North Battleford where he played many sports. In 1959, Neil moved to Neilburg, Saskatchewan where he married Doris Wagner. They went on to raise 4 children while starting a successful gravel construction business. Neil played both hockey and baseball with the Neilburg Monarchs. Neil played 16 seasons with the Neilburg Monarchs in the North Saskatchewan Baseball League and was inducted into the Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame in 2021. After his retirement from competitive sports, Neil gave back to his community by coaching many minor hockey teams in Neilburg. He also coached the Neilburg Monarchs senior mens hockey club for 4 seasons from 1989 to 1993 where they won back to back championships during this time. Neil is survived by his daughter, Cindy LeBlanc (husband Luc); son, Darwin Urlacher (wife Diahann and son’s Connor and Colby); son, Regan Urlacher; and son, Carson Urlacher (wife Simone and son’s Colton and Kiefer). Neil is predeceased by his wife, Doris Urlacher (nee Wagner); father, Anton Urlacher; and mother, Felicia Urlacher. Donations may be made to the Neilburg Recreation Board, the Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame, the Foothills Country Hospice or a charity of your choice.
