Miro Kwasnica passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Saanich Peninsula Hospital, Saanichton, British Columbia, at the age of 88.
Miro will be sadly missed by his wife of 51 years, Ruth Stark-Kwasnica; daughter Amanda (David Shur) and their son Noah; son Robin (Miho Yoshida); daughter Sarah and her daughters Maddi, Maggie and Shelby; son Johnathon (Larry Bauder); daughter Emma and her daughters Anna, Sophie, Chloe and Maya; daughter Jessica (Tony Rechsteiner) and their daughter Olivia; son Andrew (Kathryn Allan-Kwasnica) and their daughter Arya.
He is predeceased by sons Larry and James Kwasnica.
Miro was born in Wakaw, Saskatchewan, the second youngest of eight siblings. Upon graduating from highschool he was hired to teach at country schools, which he did for two years while earning his interim teaching certificate through correspondence classes at the Saskatoon Teacher’s College. He completed his education at the University of Saskatchewan and went on to teach English, Social Studies and Driver’s Education at Lloydminster Comprehensive High School from 1961 – 1983. Miro served three terms as the NDP Member of the Legislative Assembly for the Cut Knife-Lloydminster constituency from 1967-1978. Miro was an avid musician and sang, played fiddle and electric guitar, and performed in bands at weddings and dance parties over the course of his life, beginning at age nine. Miro was devoted to physical fitness and natural health.
In 1983, Miro and family moved to Victoria, British Columbia where he worked in finance and life insurance before retiring at age 75. He enjoyed family gatherings with his many children, grandchildren and dogs and cats, gardening, word puzzles, playing and listening to music, and stayed active and engaged in current events.
