A segment of 29 St. between 52 Ave. and 54 Ave. is being redone thanks to some additional funding for a street improvement project.
Lloydminster Council reviewed a request for additional funding to be committed to the project. The commitment is $170,000 from the Transportation Services Capital reserve.
A request was also made to increase the contract amount of Knelsen Sand & Gravel Ltd. of La Crete Alta. in the amount of $271,187.50, to be allocated from the Capital Budget Project.
Work was already being done between 29 St. and 30 St. along 55 Ave. when it was noted the stretch of the street. between 52 Ave. and 54 Ave. was deteriorating.
“I drove by it this morning (July 22) and you see the condition of the road, it’s bad,” said Councillor David Lopez. “It’s only going to get worse with the freeze and thaws, that top is going to come off.”
In the council agenda, it’s noted “Administration must continually rehabilitate, maintain, and replace the existing infrastructure to ensure adequate levels of service for residents and businesses throughout the City of Lloydminster.”
The segment of 29 St. was planned to be completed as part of the work along 55 Ave., however, due to budget considerations, it was removed from the 2024 Street Improvement Program.
James Rogers, presenting the project for the City of Lloydminster, says notices will be hand-delivered to residents affected by the construction in the area.
Motions were made and passed to commit $170,000 from the Transportation Services Capital reserve and to increase the contract amount of Knelsen Sand & Gravel Ltd. to $271,187.50 from the Capital Budget Project.
