The U13 Maidstone Lakers are AA Tier 1 provincial champions.
The eight-team tournament took place in Meadow Lake July 26-28. The weekend started off with the Lakers picking up a win against Saskatoon before going undefeated all the way to the finals. In the finals they met the Carnduff Astros. The Lakers took down the Astros 12-2 in convincing fashion.
Facebook posts in the U13 Maidstone Lakers group applauded the team for their strong performance.
“They say ‘it takes a village’ and man does it ever. With parents travelling in multiple directions at times throughout the season. It takes friends, family and friends that become family to get these boys to practices, games and tournaments. Here is just a small part of that village that were in Meadow Lake this weekend cheering on our boys as they won gold. Thank you to everyone present and cheering from afar. Our ‘village’ is strong,” read a post by Stefanie Rogers, Maidstone Lakers manager.
Now the team is onto their next big tournament.
“If you win tier 1, you go on to Western Canadian Baseball Championships,” said Rogers.
The team is back to practicing next week in preparation for the western championships. The tournament runs from Aug. 15 to 18 and take place in Winnepeg.
